Job Summary:

Provide a wide range of administrative support for planning, implementing and executing successful Dakota language instruction to students, staff and audiences of all ages. Fundamental to this position is working proactively and balancing multiple tasks while delivering exceptional customer service to promote the value of Dakota language, culture and history.


Job Duties:

  1. Develop Dakota language lesson plans; curriculum; audio visual materials and programming that facilitates and promotes learning the Dakota language and creating a Dakota language database.
  2. Instruct SMSC students, at all grade levels by incorporating Dakota culture, history and language within academic standards for activities and culturally relevant events in partnership with Cultural Resources staff.
  3. Collaborate with management and marketing staff for Dakota language specific public programming, educational outreach materials and publications.
  4. Translate English materials into Dakota and assist in creating audio visual tools and resources for teachers, students and families to learn the Dakota language.
  5. Work with the SMSC Business Council, Culture & Historic Preservation Workgroup and Cultural Resources staff on translating titles and other documents correctly into Dakota language.
  6. Obtain office supplies and equipment; prepare and process travel arrangments/vouchers; submit time and attendance; prepare reports; reconcile transaction; maintain office files, calendars and conference set-up using various automated systems.
  7. Help students learn Dakota language presentations for parents and SMSC community gatherings and other events.
  8. Attend special events and meetings to bring cultural awareness to the public about the SMSC Hoċokata Ti.
  9. Other duties and projects as assigned.

Job Requirements

  1. Combination of education and experience to equal four years teaching, speaking, writing curriculum for Dakota language or related experience.
  2. Experience working with young children to adults
  3. Demonstrates effective organizational and communication skills
  4. Demonstrates computer skills, Microsoft, Word, and Excel
  5. Valid driver's license required with good driving record
  6. C.P.R. and First Aid Certifications or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment
