Job Summary:

Under general supervision of a Licensed Pharmacist, and in accordance with established SMSC Pharmacy procedures, assist in the preparation and distribution of medications.

Job Duties:

  1. Under the supervision of a Licensed Pharmacist, assist in preparing and dispensing medications to patients. This includes retrieving, counting, pouring, weighing, measuring, sometimes mixing the medication, and labeling containers.
  2. Conduct transactions on cash register, including: prescription transactions, over-the-counter sales, end of the day close, reports and daily deposit preparation.
  3. Receive and verify medical prescriptions for completeness and accuracy from patients and doctors' offices.
  4. Respond to all patient calls and requests as well as calls from vendors and doctor's offices.
  5. Once prescriptions are filled, the Pharmacy Technician will price and file the prescription, which must be checked by a Licensed Pharmacist before it is given to the patient.
  6. Gather and maintain confidential patient information to ensure accurate records for medical reasons and billing purposes.
  7. Verify insurance information and assist in the billing process as well as processing patient payments.
  8. Checks incoming inventory, stocks shelves, and monitors products to ensure they are ordered and on hand in a timely manner.
  9. Understands and complies with all state and federal rules and regulations concerning the dispensing of medications.
  10. Complies with HIPAA rules and maintains all patient information confidentially and securely.
  11. Assist in cleaning of pharmacy to ensure a neat and orderly work area.

Job Requirements

  1. Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  2. Must have current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with MN Board of Pharmacy
  3. Good computer skills to include MS Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as other business related software as needed.
  4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Must hold and maintain Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. If not CPR certified upon hire, must obtain certification within 90 days of employment.
  6. On feet or standing 100% of time.
Pharmacy is open Monday - Friday 7am - 7pm and Saturday 7am - noon.  
This position will be a part time position, approximately 8 hours per week.  The ideal candidate would have flexability to work additional hours to cover PTO for other technicians  this will include 1 Saturday per month (7am-12pm).
Current registration as a technician with a MN Board of Pharmacy, retail pharmacy experience is a plus.  National Technician certification preferred.
